Brow Lift Surgery

If you struggle with a descending brow that makes your eyes appear hooded and may even impede your vision, a forehead lift performed by Tucson plastic surgeon Dr. Alfaro can correct this condition.

By removing and lifting sagging tissues on your upper face and brow area, Dr. Alfaro can achieve a brow and eye area that looks younger and more rested. You can likely also experience renewed self-confidence following your successful plastic surgery in Tucson.

How a Forehead Lift Works

Before beginning your forehead lift in Tucson, Dr. Alfaro's anesthesiologist will administer your anesthetic. Whether you receive a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic with sedation, you should sleep through the procedure.

Dr. Alfaro will begin by making an incision across the top of your head, hidden in your hairline. Here, he will adjust the muscle and tissues, smoothing them out. Then, he will lift your brow area, affixing it in its more elevated location with sutures under the skin. In some cases, Dr. Alfaro may choose to use titanium screws behind your hairline. To close the minimal incisions he has made, Dr. Alfaro will use sutures. A surgical dressing will then be applied to cover the incisions.

As you begin your initial recovery period following your forehead lift in Tucson, you may experience some swelling or numbness. Dr. Alfaro may prescribe medication to help you manage discomfort. Your activity will need to be limited for several days and you must keep your head elevated. After three days, you may shampoo your hair while showering.

One week after surgery, your sutures will be removed. If Dr. Alfaro used screws that are not permanent, he will remove those two to three weeks after surgery. After this time, you should be able to incorporate more physical activity into your routine. You should take care to shield your skin from excess sun exposure for several months, however.

It can take several months in some cases, to be completely healed from a forehead lift. However, the lifting and smoothing effects of the surgery can last up to ten years if you take care of your skin.

Forehead Lift FAQ

What procedures can be combined with my forehead lift?

Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a brow lift include: eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes, facelift to correct aging changes in the mid- to lower face and neck regions, and skin resurfacing techniques.

How long is recovery after a forehead lift?

Initial wound healing may take 5 to 10 days, at which time any sutures or clips will be removed. You will be ready to return to work and normal activity at this time. Cosmetics can camouflage any bruising that remains. Healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling dissipates and incision lines refine and fade and it may take several months for your complete recovery.

What are the risks of forehead lift surgery?

Risks include scarring, hematoma, infection, poor healing, anesthesia risks, blood clots, correctable hair loss at the incisions, elevated hairline, facial nerve injury with weakness or paralysis, facial asymmetry, skin loss, numbness or other changes in skin sensation or intense itching, eye irritation or dryness, eyelid ptosis, loose eyelid skin, ectropion, fluid accumulation, pain, skin contour irregularities, skin discoloration and swelling, irritated sutures, and need for revision surgery.
